The base is what keeps a portable hoop standing during play, so filling it correctly matters. Here is what our customer service team recommends.
Our Recommendation
Fill the base completely with sand, or with a mix of sand and water. A base filled with water only is more likely to tip over.
Three models are designed to be filled with sand only: the 44CYZ2, 48CYZ2, and 40CYZ4-G.
How Much Each Base Holds
| Model | Base capacity | Filled with sand | Filled with water |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30CYT2 | 4.5 gal | 50 lb | 37.5 lb |
| 40CYX3 | 9.25 gal | 100 lb | 77 lb |
| 40CYZ4-G | 12.25 gal | 100 lb | Sand only |
| 44CYX1 | 13.7 gal | 154 lb | 114 lb |
| 44CYZ2 | 12.9 gal | 172 lb | Sand only |
| 44CYZ3T | 13.5 gal | 143.3 lb | 113 lb |
| 48CYX1 | 13.7 gal | 154 lb | 114 lb |
| 48CYZ2 | 12.9 gal | 172 lb | Sand only |
| 36AWY4 (pool) | 9 gal | 100 lb | about 75 lb |
The 40CYZ4-G and 30CYT2 also come with a 40 lb sand weight ball for extra stability.
Before You Play
- Fill the base all the way, not partly.
- Follow the filling steps in your model's manual, available on our Installation Guides & Manuals page.
