A portable hoop is a big purchase, and the right one depends on who will play, how you want to adjust it, and how you plan to anchor it. Here is a quick guide based on the AWII Sport lineup.
1. Start With Who Is Playing
- Young kids: our 30" hoop (30CYT2) adjusts from 3.13 to 7 ft in 12 levels, so small players can start low and move up.
- Growing kids, teens, and adults: our 40", 44", and 48" hoops reach a regulation 10 ft in 10 levels, starting from 4.8 to 5.5 ft depending on the model.
2. Pick a Backboard Size
All AWII Sport portable hoops use an impact-resistant polycarbonate (PC) backboard. Sizes range from 30" × 20" to 48" × 30". A larger backboard gives more room for bank shots and rebounds; a smaller one is easier to fit in tight spaces.
3. Choose How You Adjust the Height
- Crank: turn the handle to raise or lower the rim (44CYX1, 48CYX1, 40CYX3).
- Push-button: press the button and slide the pole (44CYZ2, 48CYZ2, 44CYZ3T, 40CYZ4-G).
4. Check the Base
Every portable hoop has a fillable base on a triangular support structure. Some models are filled with sand only; others take sand or a mix of sand and water. The 40CYZ4-G and 30CYT2 also include a 40 lb sand weight ball for extra stability. See our guide to filling your hoop base.
